Why 5-a-Day? - About Us

Introducing the 5-a-Day for Better Health Trust

The 5-a-Day for Better Health Trust in South Africa is glad to be able to bring to you a tasty, eye-catching message that says – 'eat more, not less and keep it colourful!' That’s what the 5-a-Day campaign is all about – good news that promotes good health for all.

Launched in September 1995, the 5-a-Day for Better Health Trust is a non-profit organization with a sound science backing which aims, through education and promotion, to increase the consumption of fresh vegetables and fruit (to at least five servings per person per day) in South Africa in order to promote better health.

As part of the global drive, lead by the World Health organisation (WHO), to increase the consumption of vegetables and fruit, our own Department of Health has made the 5-a-Day for Better Health TRUST its official partner in getting the 5-a-Day message ‘Eat plenty of vegetables and fruit every day for better health’ out to all South Africans. 5-a-Day is also a founding and active member of the International Fruit and Vegetable Alliance (www.ifava.org).
