What Counts - Look for Our Logo

It is time we all began doing what we know is good, eating 5-a-Day – for the sake of our health.

South Africans spontaneously name vegetables and fruit as the most important foods for health and wellbeing, and yet there is a clear gap between what we know and what we do. On average, according to the Medical Research Council, we only eat just under 3 of the required 5-a-Day servings the scientists have shown to be optimal. Our easy to recognise 5-a-Day logo is there to remind you to eat at least five servings of a variety of colourful vegetables and fruit every day and to assist you to buy products than can contribute towards your 5-a-Day.

For vegetables, fruits, fresh juice or 100% pure unsweetened juice  and their products to be granted permission to carry the 5-a-Day logo, they have to meet stringent criteria. So if you buy a product carrying our logo, you are assured that the products count towards your 5-a-Day, and are low in fat, added sugar and salt. Not all foods that contain vegetables and fruit carry the 5-a-Day logo. This may be because they don’t comply with the criteria for use or because the food manufacturer has not yet applied for use.

Look out for the 5-a-Day logo next time you go shopping!
