Onions are part of the Allium family, together with garlic, leeks and
chives. The Allium family is rich in sulphur-containing compounds that are
responsible for their intense odours and may provide health benefits. Onions
provide numerous flavonoids such as quercitin, which is being investigated
for its possible antioxidant, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties.
