Selection & Storage
Selecting your mango is easy - simply smell the stem. If you smell the fragrant mango aroma, it is ripening. Avoid shrivelled fruit and fruit with black and grey spots. To select a ripe mango, gently press the skin without denting the fruit to feel if the flesh is soft. Mangoes ripen best at between 18 to 23 degrees Celsius. Keep them at room temperature until they start to soften and you can smell a mango aroma.

Mangoes will ripen quickly if kept in the fruit bowl with other fruit like bananas and pineapples, so keep them separately to avoid over ripening.

Once your mangoes are ripe and you would like to extend their storage period, store them loosely in the fridge. Once you remove them from the fridge you must consume them as quickly as possible because they will deteriorate fast.
