Grapes
Preparation & Serving
Wash grapes well under cold running water before eating or using in a recipe. Only wash as many as you are planning to use, and leave them to drain and dry in a colander or gently pat dry with paper towel.
If you would like to remove the seeds from seeded grapes, cut them into halves lengthwise with a sharp paring knife and scoop out the seeds with the point of the knife. Grapes used in baking and dishes such as fruit salads are much more enjoyable without seeds. Some recipes may call for peeled grapes but we would recommend including the skins as they contain many of the grape’s nutrients.
Serving ideas:
- Grapes are a great snack – deliciously healthy, convenient, easy to transport and eat and so refreshing!
- Start your day well by mixing halved grapes with muesli and topping with yoghurt. Grapes can also be pureed and added to plain yoghurt for flavour, or blended with yoghurt and ice for a refreshing smoothie.
- Freeze seedless grapes on a tray or plate and then transfer to a freezer bag/container when frozen. Use your frozen grapes as ice cubes to keep drinks cool on a hot summer’s day.
- Grapes are a delicious addition to fruit salads – try using a few different varieties of grapes to add a gorgeous range of colours to your salad.
- Stew grapes with cinnamon, nutmeg and all spice, and serve with poached chicken breast or grilled lamb chops.
- Include seedless grapes in your favourite curry recipe to give it a fruity kick.
- Steam hake in a pocket of foil to which you have added grapes, champagne, butter, a little salt and pepper and tarragon.
- Cheese platters are not complete without a big bunch of beautiful grapes.
- For kids parties, drop a few grapes into little plastic cups, add jelly and allow to set in the refrigerator. Serve with plastic spoons. You can also make ice lollies using red grape juice for fun summer time treat.
