Grapes
Selection & Storage
Grapes should be well-shaped, full coloured, plump and firmly attached to healthy looking stems. Avoid wrinkled, damaged, cracked and loose grapes, dry or brittle stems and brown areas at the stem connections. One way to evaluate the sweetness of grapes is by their colour: black grapes should be a deep rich colour; red grapes should be mostly red, and white (green) grapes should have a slightly yellow hue.

Fresh grapes tend to spoil at room temperature and so should always be stored in the refrigerator where they can be kept for several days. Store grapes unwashed in a paper towel, covered container or plastic bag. Although frozen grapes are not as flavourful as fresh, they are a great snack during the summer months, and are especially fun for kids. To freeze grapes, remove them from the stalk, wash and dry them. Freeze them in a single layer on a baking sheet or plate and once frozen, transfer into a plastic bag and return to the freezer.
