Banana
Preparation & Serving
BananaThe banana is a great snack food because of its convenience. It peels easily and the flesh is very nutritious. Once peeled, brush the fruit with citrus juice to prevent discolouration.

Serving ideas:
  • Eat as is for a health snack between meals.
  • Slice and enjoy sprinkled over your breakfast cereal or with yoghurt.
  • Banana dry-fried in a non-stick pan makes a great addition to a cooked breakfast.
  • Add to fruit smoothies for a rich, creamy texture.
  • Slice and serve as an accompaniment to meat and curry dishes.
  • Braai bananas in their skins on a hot fire, turning until the skins are black and the banana flesh is soft.
  • For dessert slice into fruit salad or bake with a sprinkling of brown sugar and lemon juice and served with ice cream or yoghurt.
  • Fully ripened bananas are ideal for baking breads, cakes and muffins.
  • Ripe bananas can be peeled, lightly brushed with lemon juice and frozen on a stick to create a sweet summer treat for kids. Kids can dip their banana lollies in strawberry puree or honey and coconut for a yummy dash of fun!
