Colour Me Healthy

  Red

Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.
- Gwyneth Paltrow

Red always turns heads. Is it possible to ignore a beautiful woman in a red dress or a Ferrari cruising down the highway? Red is flashy and dramatic - the colour of anger, passion and love.

Red foods are worthy of our attention too, not just because of their visual appeal, but because they are packed with health promoting phytochemicals like tomato red lycopene, cherry red anthocyanins and cranberry red proanthrocyandins.
  • Lycopene is being studied for its potential role in reducing the risk of heart disease and certain cancers including prostate cancer and may also aid in preserving bone health.
  • Anthocyanins may neutralize free radicals, bolster antioxidant defences, and contribute to heart health, vision and brain function.
  • Proanthrocyandins are the active components of cranberries that contribute to urinary tract health but may also have a role in heart health. They are also found in other red vegetables and fruit such as grapes and strawberries.

Choose from a variety of RED vegetables and fruit every day, such as:

Apples (Red) Beetroot Cabbage (Red)
Cherries (Red) Cranberries Grapes (Red)
Onions (Red) Peppers (Red) Pomegranate
Radishes Raspberries Rhubarb
Strawberries Tomatoes Watermelon
